My Fairy Stairs DONE! (Almost)
May I please introduce you to my new FAIRY STAIRS!! :)
Since the purchase of this house, I have had a vision for these stairs. Several things inspired this vision. The previous darkness of this area, and also it is the entrance into my area.
Here is the before, after we painted the walls:
Not sure if peach is in the brown family but it's close enough, and it was very dark and sad to me.
This area is my office and now what looks like my studio. I will work and create and spend a lot of time here. I wanted the entrance to feel happy and colorful and child like.
The stairs were originally planned to be a meadow with clouds as shown but with flowers and grass. One morning over coffee while browsing Etsy, I stumbled across these:
Beautiful hand painted colorful wooden fairy doors. I was SO excited. At the time my attic had not been started and was still dark and dreary. When I saw these doors, I suddenly saw my whole attic and the stairs that are pictured, all around these fairy doors. I originally planned for only one door when I did my stairs, but when I saw these doors, I decided that each step would have it's own door in coordinating colors with my attic and many other doors within my attic space.
Here is a picture of the first storage door you see at the top of the stairs:
Here is the teal door in my office with the teal fairy door:
and close up:
The "Penny Lane" sign belonged to my husband's grandfather who had it in his driveway for many years. My son gave it to me and I have kept it knowing it would go in my new house somewhere but wanted the perfect place. I laid it on the step one day while working and I really liked it there, so that is where it will stay!
Here is a close up:
Everything on the stairs (except of course the fairy doors) are hand painted by me. The sky, the clouds, the grass, the trees, the treads of the stairs, everything. The words were chosen from the beginning and I wanted to be a reminder every time I walked these stairs.
Every project I finish, trying to express how rewarding it is to look at what was accomplished is sometimes a challenge. These were very rewarding on so many different levels, and I also think I worked out a lot of stress on these stairs, and when I turn to enter my stairs, they make me feel like a little girl and make me very happy, exactly what I wanted!
I am still adding a castle and few other things going around the room but I couldn't wait any longer to post my stairs!!
Please visit Paris Cabinet on Etsy and see their beautiful work!
